LaLiga Simeone testing him ahead of Real Sociedad game
Diego Simeone tested out a starting line-up with Vitolo up front during Thursday’s training session, ahead of Atletico Madrid‘s game against Real Sociedad.
The former Sevilla player has hit the ground running this season, with two goals in three games in LaLiga Santander which make him the team’s current top scorer.
From the start of pre-season, Vitolo showed he is willing to fight for a spot in the starting line-up and in the first few games he demonstrated he has what it takes to be given the chance.
Against Getafe he featured for 17 minutes and against Eibar another 45, playing 91 in total this season, and he was one of the team’s best performers when called upon.
In Atletico‘s penultimate session before the game against the Basques, Simeone tried out Mario Hermoso, Jose Maria Gimenez, Kieran Trippier and Renan Lodi in defence.
Ahead of them he placed Joao Felix, accompanied by Thomas Lemar, Saul Niguez and Koke, with Diego Costa and Vitolo upfront in a 4-4-2 formation, while should he opt for 4-3-3, the Portuguese will move to the attack.
