Real Madrid MARCA journalists offer their opinions
Real Madrid have managed just one goal in 270 minutes in their last three LaLiga Santander games against Valencia, Barcelona and Athletic Club.
Karim Benzema has carried the team on his shoulders in terms of scoring since Cristiano Ronaldo‘s departure to Juventus in the summer of 2018.
Zinedine Zidane has dismissed rumours about a possible signing, but should Real Madrid move for a player in January?
A series of MARCA journalists have offered their opinions as the January transfer market approaches.
The market, except for a hidden diamond, does not offer solutions. It is useless to seek a Cristiano Ronaldo because he does not exist. Eden Hazard scored 16, 12 and 16 league goals in the last three seasons, while Gareth Bale has netted seven, 16 and eight. Those two could offer Real Madrid the best solution.
It is evident: Real Madrid lack goals. Sergio Ramos, with three goals, is Los Blancos‘ top scorer in the league after Karim Benzema (12). Zidane does not trust Luka Jovic, who has played 423 minutes, or Mariano Diaz, who has yet to feature, but the problem is not in the striker’s position. Madrid need a midfielder who can step into the opposition area.
A late diagnosis; an irresolvable problem. Madrid don’t lack chances, they lack goals, but the diagnosis has come late and now the market doesn’t offer any immediate medicines. When Cristiano Ronaldo left, it was time to sign Robert Lewandowski.
Madrid lack goals, so therefore it is obvious: they need to sign someone. But they won’t do it. They had a shot in the last two summers to get Lewandowski and they didn’t sign him. He could have had the same impact that Ruud van Nistelrooy did. But the club didn’t dare. So, why insist?
Yes, they should sign, so long as there is someone better than those they already have. Madrid need to forget about Cristiano Ronaldo. Relying on Benzema alone is not a good idea and seeing that Jovic, Vinicius Junior and the midfielders are not scoring, they have to bring in a new addition.
