LaLiga Santander Big change is coming
Much has been written about the potential arrivals at Real Madrid this summer. Eden Hazard is practically confirmed, Paul Pogba is Zinedine Zidane‘s big wish, Ferland Mendy is seen as ideal competition for Marcelo, and Luka Jovic is considered the man to help Karim Benzema in attack.
But the reality is that before anyone comes in, players must go, and the club are trying to find new homes for as many as 14 of their current players, many of whom have no place in Zidane‘s plans next term.
As things stand, only 19 players have both feet on the plane that will take the squad to the United States on July 8th, and three of those – Thibaut Courtois, Andriy Lunin and Luca Zidane – are goalkeepers, bearing in mind Keylor Navas has been told that he can move on.
In defence we have Mendy, who may or may not arrive, alongside Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Odriozola, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Nacho, Marcelo and Eder Militao.
The midfield is another area where new faces may feature. Pogba tops the list, but Donny van de Beek, Miralem Pjanic and Christian Eriksen are also highly thought of. Any of those above names may join Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Luka Modric, Fede Valverde and Marco Asensio.
Up top, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes will be present, while Hazard and Jovic may accompany them on the plane.
While nothing is certain, a number of players have been told to look elsewhere for football this summer, according to Zidane‘s own wishes. Keylor‘s situation is known, as is Gareth Bale‘s. Jesus Vallejo and Sergio Reguilon are two more who the club would rather spend 2019/20 away from the Santiago Bernabeu, while Theo Hernandez is unlikely to return.
Dani Ceballos and Marcos Llorente are not in Zidane‘s plans, while Mateo Kovacic, James Rodriguez, Martin Odegaard and Oscar Rodriguez are all likely to stay outside of the squad and with other clubs.
Raul de Tomas and Borja Mayoral will return, but Isco may leave, despite wanting to remain, and Lucas Vazquez is facing another few months of uncertainty.
The list of doubts is completed by Brahim Diaz and Mariano Diaz, neither of whom have featured as much as they would have expected this term.
