Modern football may be focussed on neat touches and passes, but Santiago Solari has turned to wide players, a species of player that seemed like it was becoming extinct.
On one side he has Vinicius. It seemed impossible that he’d be able to be as exciting at such as young age as Raul used to be, but he is. He still has some issues with finishing, but it’s undeniable that he offers a lot in attack. He makes life painful for full-backs and even more so when coming up against a centre-back. When Real Madrid don’t have the ball, the 18-year-old even helps out in defence. He is a joy, and doesn’t even become frustrated when substituted off.
On the other side, on the right, there is Lucas Vazquez, who has become almost undroppable. He is the employee of the month. Much of Real Madrid‘s improvement has to do with his generosity. As well as everything he adds to attack, he runs many kilometres as he tracks back and this helps the side’s midfield. These kinds of contributions are appreciated by fans.
Even Gareth Bale‘s goal might be good news for the wingers, as his value might have gone up in the case of a potential summer sale…
