University of North Carolina alum Ben Griffin had a successful foray at open qualifying for this week’s Lincoln Land Championship presented by LRS, shooting 6-under 66 at Annbriar GC to secure a tee time Thursday at Panther Creek CC.
Griffin, who graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill last spring with an economics degree, has made three Web.com Tour starts this season, most recently his hometown REX Hospital Open, where he made his first cut and finished T57.
He has also made two PGA TOUR starts this season, highlighted by a T49 at the Puerto Rico Open.
The 23-year-old played on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada last summer, winning the Staal Foundation Open presented by tbaytel and finishing No. 8 on the Order of Merit to secure 2019 Web.com Tour status.
Griffin produced a clean card in Monday’s qualifier, making six birdies and no bogeys.
Brian Bullington paced the field at the Gateway National qualifier, firing a 6-under 65 that included six birdies, an eagle and two bogeys.
The University of Iowa alum will be making his first Web.com Tour start since the 2016 Rust-Oleum Championship (T56), and has also made two John Deere Classic appearances on the PGA TOUR.
Bullington, who hails from Frankfort, Illinois, has made 22 career PGA TOUR Latinoamerica starts, highlighted by a T7 at the 2016 Roberto De Vicenzo Punta del Este Open Copa NEC.
Also advancing from the Annbriar GC site were Samuel Stevens (67), Justin Bryant (67), Matt Gurska (69), Timothy Hildebrand (69) and Patrick Flavin (69). The latter three survived a 5-for-3 playoff with Christopher Meyer and Brian Dwyer.
Also advancing from the Gateway National site were Nick Mason (66), Michael Davan (66), Gage Ihrig (67), Bryce Emory (67) and David Bradshaw (67).
