Ligue 1 Also spoke about Neymar relationship
Kylian Mbappe spoke about his pride at being noticed by Leo Messi, as well as his relationship with Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar.
The 21-year-old went into detail about his personal trajectory which has seen him become one of the top players in the world.
“People think that Kylian has changed, but it’s not true. He plays to be decisive and important for his team,” he told France Football, who named him the best French player of 2019.
“Except at age 17 or 18, you dare a little less to do your own thing because you still haven’t proven anything.
“You have to respect a certain form of hierarchy and give the ball to the best players. Now, they give me the ball and I take more advantage of my opportunity because I have tried it.
“The perception of the guy who is obsessed with the ball and that laughs at everything that happens around it is a false perception.
“Goals are good for children who only remember that. On the other hand, older people, those who know a little more, do not stop at mere statistics,” he stated.
Mbappe mentioned his desire to win the Ballon d’Or but found it impossible to surpass Lionel Messi.
“Last season, I realised I could challenge for it. But in front of it stood Messi. I would score two goals, he would three; I scored three and he scored four. It’s crazy.
“I talked to Ousmane Dembele about how that was possible, and if he saw the goals I scored. And he told me that Messi was watching me.
“It’s flattering that someone like Leo takes you into consideration.”
There has been much speculation about a personal battle between himself and teammate Neymar, but Mbappe moved to explain those claims.
“When I arrived in Paris, Neymar was a superstar. He was injured, missed the World Cup and I won it.
“News began about an alleged rivalry between us and my willingness to take his place. When I returned to Paris in August 2018, the first thing I did was talk to him.
“I told him that I would fight for the Ballon d’Or that year because he was not in the race to win it, but I assured him that I did not want his position at PSG, that he could keep his place and that I was there to help him,” he clarified.
