Real Madrid Returned to the team in the penultimate round
Andriy Lunin was a starter for Leganes on Sunday evening, several months after his last appearance in LaLiga Santander, and they are keen to keep hold of him for the 2019/20 season.
Mauricio Pellegrino‘s undisputed No.1 is Pichu Cuellar and he had only missed a game and a half due to injury this season, leaving Lunin to watch on from the bench for the majority of the campaign.
But the Ukrainian is well-liked at the club and they have been impressed by his work in training, while the player himself has also enjoyed the time he has spent there, leaving both parties keen to remain together beyond the summer.
Leganes will have to receive Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid‘s approval, though, as the goalkeeper could return to be second choice behind Thibaut Courtois at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Cuellar could yet leave this summer and, given how highly thought of Lunin is, Pellegrino would have no hesitations about making him the first-choice should he remain.
Real Madrid won’t rush into making a decision and they are likely to sit with it for a lot of the summer.
Leganes, meanwhile, will have to pay Los Blancos compensation due to the lack of minutes the young goalkeeper has seen.
