There is another twist in the Matthijs de Ligt transfer saga as the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, has reportedly touched down in France to begin negotiations with heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.
The French side are very keen on securing the young Dutch centre-back’s services and they have made their intentions clear by outbidding every other team who are currently in the race for his signature.
According to media reports in Italy, Raiola is already in France and is ready to strike a deal with PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel and the rest of the PSG hierarchy.
President Nasser Al-Khelaifi is desperate to continue to add quality reinforcements to his side after another disappointing showing in the Champions League last season, the main trophy that has evaded them.
De Ligt, who we must not forget is only 19 years old, already has various offers on the table from some of Europe’s elite clubs.
Barcelona looked favourites to sign him not long ago, however offers from PSG, Juventus and various English clubs have left the Ajax captain with a very difficult decision to make.
Los Cules have been tracking him for a long time and were convinced that they had landed their man after both clubs agreed a 75 million euro fee for the player.
The stumbling block appears to be the remuneration package offered to De Ligt himself and Barcelona have stated that they are not willing to budge or negotiate.
They are said to be running out of patience with him and are annoyed at his attitude.
De Ligt has become one of the most sought-after players in world football and this week we could finally see the end of this ongoing transfer debacle.
