Former Racing Santander and Espanyol goalkeeper Erwin Lemmens is excited to see Eden Hazard in action for Real Madrid next season.
Lemmens is currently part of Roberto Martinez‘s coaching staff with the Belgium national team and has regularly seen Hazard up close and personal in recent years.
“Real Madrid are signing a great player in Eden,” he told Radio MARCA.
“He loves to play football and always wants to be on the pitch. He has something different to other players.
“Hazard‘s dream has always been [to play for] Real Madrid and he’s going to prove it. He wants to be the best [player] on the pitch.”
Lemmens has watched Hazard in training for the last couple of years and highlights the forward’s shooting as his main asset.
“He’s so calm on the ball, but above all, when we have shooting competitions, he always wins,” Lemmens said.
“Hazard is a team player, you can see that he always thinks about others on the pitch. I put my neck on the line for him.
“I know what football is like in Spain and it’s the best.
“Hazard is a Galactico. He does things that make you go, ‘Sh*t! Where did that come from?’ His teammates are going to enjoy [playing with him].”
Lemmens knows Hazard‘s Real Madrid teammate Thibaut Courtois particularly well, having been his goalkeeper coach with Belgium in recent years.
“I’ve worked really hard with Courtois this week. He wants to start [the season] strongly,” he said.
“I’ve known him for eight years and I know that goalkeeper coaches have to treat him differently.
Courtois‘ first season at Los Blancos wasn’t very successful, so would Lemmens consider moving to Madrid to coach him?
“I would love to coach Courtois at Real Madrid, I’ve been a fan since I was little and he wants to work with me,” he said.
“We’ve done work together which has made him better. If there’s a possibility, I’ll be there before they call me.”
