Copa America Part of Brazil squad for Copa America
Casemiro has admitted that Brazil need to remain composed as the pressure is heaped on the hosts for this summer’s Copa America.
Brazil kick off the tournament against Bolivia on Friday (2:30 CEST) at the Estadio Morumbi, the stadium where Casemiro made his name with Sao Paulo.
“There is anxiety, it’s normal, even more so at the start of the tournament like it is for us,” Casemiro said.
“We have to be strong mentally like the boss always asks us to be.”
Brazil haven’t won a major trophy since lifting the Copa America in 2007, but the Real Madrid midfielder is just concentrating on playing matches.
“For us Brazilians, every game is important,” he said. It’s been a long time since we won a trophy but even friendlies are important to us.”
Brazil will host the tournament and Casemiro is calling upon his teammates to make their home crowd proud.
“It’s a dream to play in a tournament like this in Brazil. We have to transmit this on the pitch and earn the support of the people,” he said.
Despite the injury to Neymar, Brazil go into the tournament as favourites.
“Brazil are favourites at any tournament,” said Casemiro.
“The work has been good, I can say that as I was one of the first ones to arrive.
“We’re obliged to play well and win. Even thought Neymar, our star, isn’t here, we’re a very strong team.”
