Emilio Butragueno has never been one for aggression, be it in his playing days or post-playing career.
In 341 Real Madrid appearances he picked up just five yellow cards, he celebrated his goals in a measured manner and he wasn’t even put out by the signing of Hugo Sanchez.
But his patience has worn thin now, and Butragueno has shown signs of anger.
He bit his tongue after El Clasico with referee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez, despite the last 18 decisive decisions he’s made against Real Madrid.
VAR, though, has managed to irritate Butragueno.
You have to point out that VAR is almost perfect for calling offsides and for those decisions it’s almost infallible. But on other plays it’s a nightmare.
Before just one referee was wrong; now two are wrong despite them having the assistance of a computer.
VAR’s errors need to be ironed out, otherwise the integrity of the game is at risk.
