At 41 years of age, Gianluigi Buffon‘s future at Paris Saint-Germain is in doubt.
The Italian signed for the French club last summer on a one-year contract with an option for another year.
Buffon‘s representatives are currently in discussions with the Ligue 1 champions over an extension, but there has been no agreement reached.
With Alphonse Areola staking a claim for a starting spot in goal for the club and Kevin Trapp expected to return from his loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, the veteran’s position at PSG is under threat.
In addition, if PSG are to go after David De Gea, it seems as if one or two goalkeepers are going to have to leave the Parc des Princes.
However, a departure from Paris doesn’t necessarily mean Buffon won’t look for a new adventure at a another club.
Buffon‘s relationship with PSG is excellent and he wants to know whether he has a future at the club sooner rather than later.
PSG represent arguably the goalkeeper’s best chance of winning the Champions League – a title that has eluded him during his lengthy career.
Buffon held his hands up for the French side’s defeat to Manchester United this season having not had his best of games in the second leg in Paris.
