Barcelona Offered job in Doha on Friday
Barcelona want Al-Sadd boss Xavi Hernandez to replace Ernesto Valverde as the head coach immediately.
CEO Oscar Grau and technical secretary Eric Abidal travelled to Doha on Friday to interview the former Blaugrana player.
The meeting was planned a few days ago to offer Xavi the job for the next two full seasons, but the situation has escalated with the defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana.
Now, the Barcelona board are planning on appointing Xavi immediately as Valverde‘s replacement.
Meanwhile, the club are trying to transmit a sense of calmness. From inside the club, they have been assuring fans and press that Josep Maria Bartomeu had no intention of sacking Valverde now and that he would continue.
Everything started with RAC1’s reports of a meeting between Grau, Abidal and Xavi in Doha.
During this meeting, Xavi was offered the Barcelona job, with Valverde‘s fate already decided.
If Xavi turns down this offer, which doesn’t seem his intention at the moment, Valverde will stay in his role because there is no other clear replacement on the market.
