Barcelona PSG so far unwilling to do business
Josep Maria Bartomeu and Barcelona aren’t yet giving up in their pursuit of Neymar and, despite the fact Paris Saint-Germain have been reluctant to deal with a club they have huge distaste for, a delegation from the Camp Nou has travelled to the French capital to try to unblock negotiations for the Brazilian.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to go head-to-head in the race to bring the former Santos prodigy back to LaLiga Santander, yet Los Blancos are the Parisian club’s favoured negotiating partner.
According to a report published by RAC1, Javier Bordas, Eric Abidal and Andre Cury have been entrusted with the task of meeting with Leonardo in Paris on Tuesday.
Barcelona are eager to meet representatives of the French champions in person, simply to gauge just why they have been so steadfast in their refusal to negotiate with the Blaugrana to this point.
Abidal could well be the key figure here, with the former French international well respected throughout his home country and he also has a good relationship with a number of executives at the Parc des Princes.
Crucially, the former Monaco defender wasn’t part of the Barcelona structure which so angered PSG with their underhand pursuit of Marco Verratti.
PSG hope that Neymar ends up with Real Madrid, but the Catalan club are working hard to prevent that from happening.
Tuesday will see a formal offer put on the table, and Abidal has attempted to lessen the fiscal demand of such a deal by offering Philippe Coutinho as a makeweight.
PSG prefer cash to a player exchange and it’s clear that Tuesday’s meeting will not be definitive, there is still a lot of time left in the European window and the only clear factor at this point is that Neymar wants to leave PSG and Barcelona want to sign him.
